'Dim Sum' originates from a Cantonese dialect that means 'snacks' or light food. Literally translated as 'Touch the Heart', Dim Sum has gained popularity among Chinese community. Today, it appears to be a staple dining culture especially among the Chinese of southern China, Hong Kong and south-east Asia origins. Folks flock to 'yum-cha' (literally means 'drink tea'), catching up with friend and family members.

Crawling back to its origin, 'yum-cha' was developed in the past owing to the need to rest when the Chinese travelers went on a long journey along Silk Road. Tea houses were first set up along the road and light snacks were served to these travelers to replenish before continuing their journey. At present, Dim Sum is served in elaborate manner with enormous varieties ranging from meats, dumplings, steam buns, pastries, porridge to steam/fried cakes.

Visiting Houston Chinatown brought us a chance to feast at Ocean Palace which was recommended by a local Chinese friend. Ocean Palace sits within the same vicinity of Hong Kong City Mall. In fact, both facades are facing the same main road of Bellaire Blvd.

Spacious and open seating
Honestly, I was impressed with the array of food served at Ocean Palace. Choices were plenty and flavor was perfect! Even a few of the dishes featured, I could hardly find in my hometown - Penang (Malaysia)! It was indeed a luxury treat for my tummy!

Check out what we got on our table.
Yumcha = drinking tea
Roasted Pork - crispy, crunchy & fabulous!
BBQ Pork is superb!
Fried tofu and beancurd sheets
White chicken feet
Brown is beef strips; Orange is octopus - impeccable combo!
Exotic dish - Marinated duck tongues
Roasted duck - tender and juicy!
Yumcha and egg tart as dessert
In our instance, the food was sumptuous and inexpensive, service was good and overall the restaurant condition was neat and clean.
A fantastic treat!
I am going back for obvious reason!
