Penang Tanjung Bungah | Ingolf Kneipe - German Restaurant and Bar PDF Print E-mail

Ingolf's Kneipe is perhaps the one and only German restaurant in Penang, Malaysia. It has been operating since several years ago and today, it is still a favorite spot especially on weekend or holiday seasons. Call for reservation to avoid disappointment. Otherwise, just beat the rest and be there as early as 6 pm for dinner.

Bar counter at ground floor usually attracts huge crowd of alcohol drinkers on the weekends! As they are running out of tables, you can opt to have meals at bar counter as well!

Speaking of meal size, a word of warning - if you are a small eater, it is best to opt only for a main course. Leave your tummy to try the appetizer or soup for some other day. Tell you a secret. My parents, my Significant Other and I arrived there holding our stomach but most of us were too full to finish up our course! We are the typical small eaters especially for dinner!

Take a look of what we ordered.

A bowl of creamy mushroom soup with bun (RM8.30) for my dad as an appetizer. Good and up on my dad's preference.

For main course, he tried on German Style Pork Curry Sausages. Served with plenty french fries, these sausages were topped with tomato sauce and sprinkled with curry powder.

My mom opted for white meat, taking a pair of chicken sausages with home made creamy mushroom sauce
(RM22.80). It is served with a few pieces of crisp hash brown potato and garnished with plenty of fresh salad. She simply loved the mushroom sauce perfect match with chicken sausages.

My Significant Other requested for a pair of grilled boneless chicken breasts (RM25.80). Wow! That plate can  be my lunch and dinner for a day! Carbohydrate from potato wedges. A lots of fiber from fresh salad and a pair of the bird's breasts for the protein. Despite the grilled was well-done, the chicken meat was still soft and tender. Nice to have it with mushroom sauce.

For myself, I usually prefer sausages served with sauce. This time, I chose to be a little adventurous to try a pair of Country Sausages (RM22.80). My smoked plain sausages arrived with stew lentils (they looked like green beans but tasted a bit like chick peas, somehow not too sure what they were exactly!), smooth mashed potato and plenty of fresh salad. Yeah, what I liked most was the mashed potato. I guess the sausage with lentil is not my preferance. They were liked an awkward combo to me, so I kept 'stealing'
the nice sauces from others!

Overall most of the choices are good, the ambiance is cozy for date or even family gathering and the price is reasonable. They do not apply additional service charge (which very few restaurants in Penang are doing this now!) so the price you see on the menu is the price you pay. It is also interesting to note that the menu is also described in German. Bar counter at ground floor
Upstairs is the non-smoking zone
We were lucky to get a comfortable spot at upstairs - the no smoking zone and the waitress was friendly too. If you are looking an afternoon variation, check out here. Guten Appetit!
