Austin is a pleasant city to live in. Made up of folks from highly diverse background gives us the opportunity to taste the food across the oceans in other continents. If you happen to love Briyani, Shalimar Restaurant is the place to dine. Briyani Rice is not alien to most Asians. Originated from Middle East (Arab States) and made popular in India/Pakistan by Muslim travelers and merchants, it is a platter of spiced basmati rice served with lamb, chicken, meat or vegetables.
My favorite Briyani
Situated almost next to H.E.B. along N. Lamar Blvd, Shalimar is a kosher restaurant and serves an array of South Asian cuisine ranging from Tikka, Boti, Kabab, Korma, Masala, Naan, Paratha and Biryani. They also offer buffet lunch and buffet dinner daily.
Tucked away in a strip of shops, next to H.E.B. of North Lamar
Our first visit took us to try their Lamb Briyani. It is highly recommended by our friend who frequent this restaurant. Their serving was generous and the briyani was fabulous.

Not too soon later, we went again for a lunch buffet with our Muslim friends. Choices were sufficient to serve our appetite and hungry stomach. This time, we had as much briyani as we wished. Food was delectable and the price was reasonable too.
