Penang George Town Shopping Mall | 1st Avenue PDF Print E-mail

Located in the main artery of Penang's capital - George Town, 1st Avenue was opened to public end of 2010. Targeting young and chic, this highly anticipated mall that serves as one stop for shopping, leisure, entertainment and food was reported to house upmarket retail shops.
Sleek
If you are a newbie to 1st Avenue like the 'previous' me, getting into the entrance of the mall's parking bay can be a headache since most of the streets on that prime land would just take you for a not-so-merry going round and around!  The clue for the P (parking) in green or iconic color of 1st Avenue is just slightly after the parking entrance of Prangin Mall multi-story car park along Tek Soon Street.

A weekend event held at Underground

1st Avenue had been talked so much, boosting the sleek concept at each level e.g. Underground, Modish, Cloud8, so I guess most of us are looking forward for the images of boutiques in a huge mall. To set your expectation right, this oasis is not extremely large (if one were to compare with malls in Kuala Lumpur/Singapore) by itself under the roof of 1st Avenue but it however provides an avenue for shoppers to access Prangin Mall and KOMTAR at the same time or in the same day. The shaded pedestrian friendly connective bridges could take one to the adjacent malls for more food/restaurants or retailers and to Traders Hotel as well. So whether it is rain or shine, one does not have to worry. Shopping, eating, rejuvenating, entertainment are readily available in a wide spectrum of budget within reach.
Multi-layer escalators
Beside Parkson and Carrefour Supermarket (coming soon) as the main tenants, currently 60-70% retailers have opened doors for business. Magic Kitchen that serves as food court would reach out to public soon.
The highest level - Cloud 8
Aerial view of George Town
To me, one of the impressive designs in 1st Avenue is the multi-layer escalators from Level 4 to Level 8. Aside from providing a safe and convenience avenue to multi-story car park and Level 8, the long stretch glass walls adjacent to the escalators also treat patrons with an aerial view of heritage ground in George Town.

The charm at Level 8 or better known as Cloud 8 is an entertainment oasis. TGV Cinemas, Red Box Karaoke, Amusement Cafe and some snacks counters are the residence here.
