Recommended by a Sarawakian friend, Carpenter Street is a restaurant tucked away in a strip of retail mall in Bayan Baru township. A stone throw from the unofficial icon of Bayan Baru - Sunshine Square, a few strokes of horn bill on its facade describes it well - an authentic corner to dine Sarawakian's signature dishes namely Kolo Mee and Sarawak Laksa.
Right in the heart of Bayan Baru
The highlight of Carpenter Street Cafe
Kolo Mee that resembles the famous Penang hawker food - Wonton Mee is a bowl of dried noodles with slices of BBQ Pork (char siew), minced pork, vegetables, garnished with deep-fried onion and fresh green onions. Claimed to be the number 1 food in Kuching, Kolo Mee offers the savory taste with a blend of sweet end, a great choice to dine at any time of the day.Dried Kolomee, there is a 'wet' version too!
Fancy something hot? Sarawak Laksa is another signature dish from the land of horn bills.  On the first sight, it looks like a bowl of Penang Curry Mee. Despite the rice vermicelli is soaked in the intense orange-red soup, the dish is not very hot but rather a mixed of tangy, savory and spicy. Topped with large shrimps, chicken, omelet and bean sprouts, Sarawak Laksa is best taken with a squeeze of lime and sambal.

Popular among the Sarawakians who reside in Penang, Carpenter Street Cafe does not give one a headache to decide. With one page simple menu, eight out of ten diners that walk in will pick either Kolo Mee or Sarawak Laksa since these are the best in town! Aside from top recommendation, Carpenter Street also offers the less famous dishes namely Sarawak style Lo Bak, Ka Chang Ma Chicken, Ang Chow Pork and Pork Leg.

Nevertheless, the restaurateur does not leave the 20% of their patrons sit with empty stomach. They also serve some Chinese a-la-carte such as Pork Ribs and Sweet Sour Pork with rice. Flavors from the land of Borneo can be distinctively difference compares to Peninsular Malaysia. Ask the friendly waitstaff to elaborate the taste if one is trying to be adventurous so that you would not end up with something you do not fancy at all. For beverages, one may opt for bottled fruits ice, herbal tea or Sarawak style black tea.

Whether the cafe is fully occupied or vice versa, the service is always prompt. Price is affordable, taste is great, food serving is generous and overall service is excellent. Hoping more restaurateurs in Penang will bench mark Carpenter Street's service level. Boss or staff, both are equally friendly!
Three-layer tea-C with ice is a must try!
A cafe that we love to go often!
