Budget Langkawi Restaurants - Nasi Kandar TomatoIf you're looking for affordable Langkawi restaurants in Cenang Beach or Tengah Beach district, look no further. Just walk into Restoran Nasi Kandar Tomato that resides by the main road of Jalan Pantai Cenang without second thought. 'Nasi' means rice and 'Kandar' is literally translated as balancing act on one's shoulder.![]() On the third day of our retreat in Langkawi, we sort of run out of places to eat for breakfast. As we passed Cenang Beach, someone shouted out Nasi Kandar Tomato. Aha! I recalled the name and some food stuff I read in TripAdvisor on Langkawi restaurants review. Everyone was excited about the place so we agreed to give it a shot. The crowd goer was a blend of cabbies, locals and foreign tourists occupying two-third of the space. Similar to business KL/Penang, Nasi Kandar Tomato is open 24 hours. To our surprise, it also serves vegetarian food. ![]() Famed for Malaysian and Indian-Muslim cuisine, Nasi Kandar Tomato features almost everything that one can ask for in a typical Nasi Kandar restaurant such roti canai, naan, tandoori, biryani, fried beehoon, fried noodles, teh tarik and nasi campur (mixed rice - a serving of white rice topped with dishes and rich aromatic curries of chicken, beef or fish) but they also serve some innovative menu of Western twist such as breakfast set with sausage, omelet, cheese and toast. In Langkawi, it is a good practice to feed the price in your mind before feeding the waitstaff with your order. If the price of your desired meal is not stated on menu, ask the waitstaff. ![]() ![]() The interior of the restaurant reminds me of the old Chinese kopitiam, no frills and relatively unorganized but we were lucky, they had high chairs for our little ones. We asked for Roti Canai, Roti Telur, Mee Goreng Mamak (Mamak style fried noodle), Bee Hoon Goreng (fried rice sticks) and Cheese Omelet plus teh tarik (black tea) and Nescafe with ice. Service was prompt and everything arrived within minutes. We like the food though not the best of we had from Nasi Kandar restaurant. Serving size is neither too large nor too small. Tomato is one of the Langkawi restaurants that is priced to please. Fairly tagged, the food stuff we had are equivalent to the charges in Penang/KL.
