We thought we were  smart heading to Kuala Selangor on the first day of Eid Mubarak festival in Malaysia. Expecting a breeze drive on the road from Kuala Lumpur (KL), we planned to arrive by noon for a great lunch treat. Kuala Selangor is a coastal town on west Peninsular Malaysia, about an hour drive from KL (via LATAR Expressway) so we were looking forward to a feast of fresh and delectable seafood!
Everyone has the same brilliant ideas!
And guess what? Most metropolitan folks shared the same brilliant idea! After a little struggle on the traffic, spending 2 hours on the road, we finally arrived at Pasir Penambang.
nn

Pasir Penambang is a fishing village across the bridge from Kuala Selangor township. Composed by wooden houses on stilts that line up along the coastline, it is famed for fresh catches from the sea!

There are at least a handful of seafood restaurants at Pasir Penambang.  Being there on a national holiday, every restaurant was fully occupied. It was my first visit, so I went with what the majority decide. We picked Kuala Sungai (Ah Yu) Seafood Restaurant opposite a commercial block.

Overlooking the river, Kuala Sungai Seafood is an open air restaurant laid with around two dozen of ten-seater tables. But all tables were taken when we walked in and lots of people were waiting. We quickly ordered our dishes before even securing a table. And, the waitstaff told us that taking our order did not guarantee our feast! Oh dear, Imagine how crowded the place was!

Lady Luck was with us, we managed to grab a table within minutes. We sat down, had a few cups of Chinese tea. Wait, wait and still waiting! After more than an hour, our first dish was delivered. A platter of deep fried soft tiny crabs.

The good news was all the other dishes were on the way.

Check out for what we had for the rest.
Teochew style steamed fish
nn
Vegetable protein fix - steamed tofu with savory sauce.

A green treat - Stir fried Ti Wang Cai (no picture)

Battered deep fried chicken
Fried Chicken
Glass noodles with plenty of seafood & vegetables
And last but not least from the sea was Butter Prawns. Sorry, I missed out the picture again :)

All the above cost RM200 odds for 9 pax. Price was reasonable and food in general was average. Nothing extraordinary though we were there with huge appetite. Hygiene needs to be improved by a few more notches. Efficiency too!
