Seafood in Langkawi restaurants is a match to hawker center in Penang. If you rent a car and take a loop to round the island, seafood signposts are planted everywhere from Kuah Downtown to the touristy districts in Pantai Cenang or Pantai Tengah. Dozens of restaurants, cafes and even Langkawi hotels are making Asian seafood readily available.
Pantai Tengah Langkawi Restaurants - Chiew Seafood
We, being one of the visitors in Langkawi were tempted to put our palette to test. Without much reference and no homework prior to this food hunting trip, we picked Chiew Seafood Restaurant out of convenience. There are two of the same boss and the same name. One is located at Pantai Tengah, adjacent to a Turkish restaurant while the other is at the high class area in Perdana Quay or popularly know as Telaga Harbor Marina.
Egg flower soup
We were glad that there was no single soul, that meant no competition in the kitchen and our stomachs could quickly be warmed. The waitstaff sounded inexperienced, without much knowledge to recommend what are their freshest and the best to offer. However the boss came in to help and we finally settled for four main dishes.
Stir-fried green vegetables (RM12)
Claypot chicken (RM18)
With four adults and two little ones to feed, we opted for a plain and non spicy dishes includes a steamed fish, a clay pot chicken, a soup and vegetables. The food was delivered promptly and we had our dinner done in less than forty-minutes. All of us agreed that the food was nothing much to boast except filling up our hunger. Technically speaking, the amount of fish and chicken was not sufficient for even 4 people. Most of the servings were pretty small for the price they charged.
Steamed fish (RM48)
On the bill, our dinner came up to almost RM119 minus a few cents inclusive of 10% service charge and the amazingly RM2 per serving of white rice! On the hind sight, we should have studied the visitor's pattern before entering into any Langkawi restaurants :D
