Our day trip to Ayutthaya in Thailand brought us to explore an authentic Thai food at a local restaurant. Located by the river banks of the famous Chao Phraya, Sombat Chao Phraya Restaurant was introduced to us by Odd - our Thai friend.
Chao Phraya River flows from central plain to Bangkok
Set up in a casual, sheltered and open atmosphere, Sombat offers a breathtaking view for one who picks the table overlooking the great river of Chao Phraya. The restaurant is clean and the waitress whom took the order speaks reasonably good English. Opting for a family-style dining, we ordered six main dishes and kept spare some room to try Thai desserts as well since they sound very inviting.
Authentic Tom Yum seafood - awesome!
The first dish served was Tom Yum Seafood. The first sight made us thought it was just a plain soup and we nearly called the waitress to verify. Having Odd around, he explained that it was the correct dish. Never judge a dish by its look! The moment I took a sip, it was unbelievable! The Tom Yum Seafood was excellent. A blend of sour (tangy), hot (spicy), savory and yummy flavors, it was perfectly cooked with scallops, squibs, prawns, chicken and mushrooms. Of all the tom yum, this is the best I had ever tasted!
Japanese beancurd in starchy gravy with slices of sausages and vegetables
Our second dishes was Green Curry Chicken. Green Curry is a famous Thai cuisine. Derived from the color green, some claim that green curry tends to be hotter. Combining green curry paste, a variety of spices and coconut milk, green curry is cooked with chicken of mouth-bite sizes in thick gravy. Creamy and fragrance, our green curry was great going well with steamed rice.

Papaya salad - almost gone!
Better known as Thai appetizer, Papaya Salad was the next platter served. Offered with fresh vegetables accompaniment such as morning glory, cabbage, long bean and bean sprout,  it was topped with sweet sauce, lime juice, in addition to some sprinkle of crushed peanuts. Indeed fabulous and hard to resist!
Glutinous rice balls filled with crushed peanuts
Perfect for coconut milk lovers
Last but not least, we tried a couple bowls of Thai desserts namely glutinous rice balls in plain soup and corn/sago in coconut milk soup. Both were served hot. Sweet and delicious.

The total bill for five of us came out less than 800 Baht, counted in our drinks as well. Great experience and we love the food.
