Coupling the surrounding of an island, Khun Thai made a great choice for its location at Teluk Kumbar. Facing the sea with a strip of sandy beaches and bamboo Al-fresco settings that dot the waterfront, Khun Thai also offers the indoor round tables dining for large gathering with family and friends.
Arriving a few days before Lunar New Year, we began our feast with Yee Sheng or better known as prosperity toss amongst the Chinese. When it comes to this dish, tossing is the primary fun and eating it may not be as interesting after we made a mess out of it! There are more mains that await, so we didn't bother to finish this appetizer though it was good.
Tom Yum soup was served shortly, it was delicious. Mildly spicy, this tangy savory Thai delicacy was perfect for me. Soon after, Otak otak - a rather unique dish as it was stuffed with squids, shrimps, fish fillets unlike the ordinary. Seafood platter that was a heap of prawns, shrimps, squids and clams was like a luxury treat for seafood fans in addition to Thai omelet, grilled Pandan-leaf wrapped marinated chicken, mixed vegetables, petai, kerabu and shrimp nuggets.
Serving seafood means you may also opt for more luxury dishes such as prawn mantis and crabs, and Khun Thai Restaurant also offers Miang Kham (traditional snack from a variety of fresh ingredients and wrapped with piper leaves) and stir fried glass noodles with seafood.
Personally, I found Khun Thai Restaurant at Teluk Kumbar is a great place to dine. Away from bustling city, the venue is perfect whether to invite your guests or just another outdoor dining with family/children, to watch sunset and dwell at waterfront.
