Texas Marble Falls | Sweet Berry Farm - Pick Your Own Fruits (Strawberry) and Vegetables PDF Print E-mail

Spring is in the air and strawberries are found everywhere! Be it at grocery stores or farmer's markets, this fruit is grabbed fast for its freshness and best value.
A basket each to pick the ripe and fresh strawberries
Ever wonder the fun to pick your own fruits as much as you like? In Texas, there are farms that offer the harvesting experience for those (like me) who are longing to pull up our sleeves, sink our feet on the dirt aisles to search for the fresh fruits and vegetables. We happened to make a drive to Marble Falls for wildflower viewing and detoured to Sweet Berry Farm to pick the ripe strawberry! Guess we did right at the season of top quality strawberry harvest!
Rows and rows of strawberry field await you

Fruits or vegetables harvest schedule may fluctuate from year to year, but the following provides a crude estimate when one could have a harvesting adventure at Sweet Berry Farm.

  • Strawberries -  early March to mid May
  • Blackberries -  mid May through June
  • New Potatoes -  May
  • Onions - late April and May
  • Tomatoes - late May through June
  • Pumpkins & Gourds - October
More accurate forecast and information can be obtained at Sweet Berry Farm website.
Mommy...I have not done yet!
Sweet Berry Farm is located about 1.2 miles from the intersection of RM 1431 (from Marble Falls) and FM 1980. We arrived on second Sunday of April at 12 noon and the gate of the farm was still closed. The signpost said "Sunday: 1pm to 5 pm". In order to kill time, we drove along FM 1980 and pulled out our camera to snap the spectacular landscape of Texas bluebonnets, Indian paint-brushes and the wild flowers contrasting the sight of country farm.

To my surprise when we returned to Sweet Berry Farm by 1 pm, dozens of cars had parked within the premise, a few making their way ahead of us and more cars were tail-gating us. Sweet Berry Farm is indeed a popular venue!
Muddy aisles give extra challenges to 'work'
Kids were seen hurrying to the strawberry patches with baskets in their hands. Some even came with rubber booties to 'work' at the narrow muddy aisles between the rows of strawberry field. More than a handful were there with their own mini-carts!
The fate of these strawberries are in my hand!
Picnic tables are plenty and farm animals like goat await you to pet them. And how about me? Of course, I did get myself a basket and started my strawberry harvest! The strawberries were plentiful if you know where to search. The picking tips said 'The largest and ripest strawberries are found on the far end of the row'. No wonder the kids were rushing there despite the aisles between the rows were muddy and slippery!
Something for tummy
Looking for something more? Sweet Berry Farm does serve home-made ice-cream, strawberry lemonade, strawberry popsicle and home-made jams to bring home.
We are literally on our own feet...careless of the sandals
The harvest of luscious strawberries
Although my harvest was incomparable with those kids, I had a great time searching and picking for red and ripe strawberries for an hour! Last but not least, rewarding myself with home-made strawberry ice-cream. Oh, it was fabulous!
